The things we do for our kids …

So I’m glancing at the calendar today and am just realizing that we are less than 2 weeks away from the Mouse’s birthday … and his birthday party.

YIKES.

And I have so.much.to.do. No really, I have no idea how I’m going to get all of this done in just over a week and a half. And because I’m freaking out about it (and lets be honest here, because I can’t NOT make a several lists to help me breathe through this whole process), here’s a list of things that have to get bought/made/baked/put together before the big day.

Let’s start with the easy stuff, the food.

I’m making cupcakes … I’m expecting between 10 and 15 kiddos to show up, plus their parent(s) … so two boxes worth? Half chocolate, and and half white cake. Blue icing (for the water) with sharks fins sticking out of them (made out of foam board from my local craft store). Similar to this:

I’m adding red sprinkles though. I’m telling everyone the red is to match the decor, but really, I’m just morbid like that. LOL.

We were going to go with Jello shots, with little shark toothpick sticks in them, but now I’m wondering if that isn’t maybe just a *tad fussy for a 3 year olds party, lol. Maybe a huge batch of ice pops instead?

Watermelon. We had watermelon at last years party and it was a huge hit, and super simple. This year, I’m considering tackling this:

Yeah, I know … I’m insane. But how COOL would this be? I would totally be my own hero if mine comes out looking even half as good as this one.

The rest of the food is easy peasy … pretzels, juice boxes, water bottles.

Decor and crafts … this is where I’m starting to feel a little overwhelmed. Thanks to Pinterest (grrrr). I need to:

- Sew the ruffled streamers
- Make the shark tissue box utensil holders
- Make the favors (sponge balls)
- Make the shark head cutout, for a photo opp.

Things I’m also going to need to buy/set up:

- Hang the way cool birthday banner
- Buy balloons … LOTS of balloons. I’m thinking about doing THIS on the garage door for guests to see as they arrive. I also want to do THIS for the Mouse to wake up to that morning (which happens to be his real birthday!). And then I just want a BUNCH to have around the backyard for the party :)
- Pin the fin on the shark game … maybe. Haven’t decided if I want to mess with this or not.
- Water toys (the entire point of the party, lol) … we have a baby pool, and a water table, and this awesome thing from last year:

jbday (10)

… I’m thinking about a cheapo slip and slide as well. The Mouse LOVED playing with one at his cousins’ house last year, so I think it might be a hit this year as well. Yes? No?

Now that I read through it all like this, it doesn’t sound *too* bad … but ask me again in about 9 days when I’m going absolutely batshitcrazy crying to SEW streamers together.
