I don’t care what your English teacher said, I’m from Texas, and ‘y’all’ IS a word. Dammit.
Fall has hit North Texas! Last night, right after I put the Mouse down for bed, a storm hit. I was on the couch (trying to watch the season premiere of Walking Dead – ZOMG – zombies!) and I hear the pitter patter of little feet out of his room. He peaks around the corner and says, ‘MOM. I heard creaking outside my window.’
‘It’s just the wind, kiddo. Go back to bed.’
‘But I heard CREAKING.’
‘Okay, want to go see the storm?’
So we walked out onto the front patio and watched the wind blowing the trees, and listened to it howl, and then saw the lightening and heard the thunder too. He was totally fascinated … and I could tell that SEEING what was going on outside really helped him not be scared of what he was hearing in his dark room.
This morning, we woke up to 50* temperatures. We wore jeans and long-sleeved shirts. I was really excited to get to leave work early, and come home to cook a good dinner and let both of the boys play out back.
I always have the best intentions.
This is what our backyard looked like when we got home:
Tree limbs down and a flooded sandbox. Yay.
Just when the weather gets AWESOME for playing outside … our backyard turns into a swamp. Yay. I was REALLY excited to take the Mouse out back to play in his sandbox, shoot some hoops, play some teeball. UGH. Hopefully, the nice weather will stick around, and things will have dried out by the weekend.
I know I shouldn’t complain … we’ve been ACHING for rain and cooler temps forEVER. I should be loving these random Autumn storms.
New grass!
Yes, yes. Fine, fine. :grumblegrumblegrumble:
Speaking of shooting hoops, all you sports fans out there … make sure you check out my newest sponsor, Pro Dunk Hoops. They have awesome PROFESSIONAL equipment for every level of player in the family!

Don’t you hate that when you are all we are sooo going to do x, y & z and then CRAP, sandbox is full of water or the playground at the park is a big swamp. Here in Ohio we are dealing with temps that are just a bit too cold for the littlest one to be out for long so it makes it tough to go to the park and stay long enough for the others to be satisfied. We’re doing what we can to make it work, just like Mommas do.
Holy basketball hoops! Those are some pretty cool hoops, maybe when we buy and are going to be in one place for a while we will look into those. I remember my brother going through hoops and backboards like crazy growing up so the Pro Dunk options would certainly have some staying power.
Yay! We’re in north TX too for the husband’s AF training. I’m a SC girl so all this heat has been driving me crazy. THESE are temperatures I can get on board with!
