The monstrosity has arrived!

We interrupt today’s Manic Monday post for an update on the Monstrosity … I just couldn’t wait, lol.

It’s here y’all! The husband and his step-dad had arranged to put it together yesterday. The Mouse had spent Saturday night over at his great-grandmother’s house, so the idea was for them to have most of it {if not all of it} completed by the time he got home on Sunday afternoon as a surprise. Husband’s step-dad has put 2 or 3 of these bad boys together before, and he told husband they could get it done in one day. All the reviews I had read online said 12-14 hours of work … so I was a little skeptical. Step-dad arrived around 930am, and they really started around 10am. I kid you not they were done by 330pm, when I arrived back at home with the Mouse. WOWZA.

Granted, I didn’t help with any of it … I only watched … and one of the two guys building has done this multiple times, but it really didn’t look all that difficult. Time consuming? Yes. Do you need more than one person who is handy with a tool box? Absolutely. But the directions seemed pretty easy to follow, they laid out all the wood and hardware before hand to organize everything, and it all seemed to go up rather smoothly. One afternoon later, my kid has something to keep him occupied for the next several years. BAM.

The final word? They’re both totally smitten. As in, the Mouse was sobbing at the backdoor at 8pm/bedtime because I wouldn’t let him go back outside to play some more. The Froggy has already been trying to climb up the slide, and more than once this afternoon he tottered over to his swing, turned back to look at me, and grunted/pointed at his swing. Just for fun, I think I’m going to keep track of how many times the Mouse asks me to push him on the swings. Anyone want to play over/under with me? lol

Bottom line? It’s already been worth the money to buy the thing and the time it took to put together. It’ll be interesting to see how it wears out in the elements. As of right now, I’m totally impressed with the quality and construction. This thing is hella sturdy, the wood seems to be fairly resilient, and all the elements seem really well made. All I can hope for now is that one of our stupid trees doesn’t shed a gigantic limb right on top of it.

Totally excited about this silly monstrosity though, good times to be had by all in the backyard this Summer.

My husband will be glad to see another blogger’s hubby also wears undershirts all the time. He’s all like “I bet your readers think we’re total WT”, and I’m all “we live in the south – it’s hot as balls – wear what makes you comfy, dude”.

  2. What a cool playset! Colin just got his first one, but it’s not as fancy as that one :) By the way, I’ve tagged you in a post on my blog! http://sbuxsweetie.blogspot.com/2012/04/11-more-things.html

Awesome! Hopefully this means more time for you to sip cocktails in the back yard with the children entertain themselves.
Can you remind me what company you ended up going with?
