AN OPEN LETTER TO MY BOYS ON SATURDAY MORNING

This how a typical Saturday morning goes in our house.

{whispers} Mommy, it’s daylight, I can get up now!
WHAAAAAA DADADADADADA WHAAAAAAAAAA
{groggy sleep talk} Dude, it’s 615. Really?
WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Mommy, I want some cereal.
Mommy, I want some milk.
Mommy, I want some watermelon.
Mommy, I want to watch Bubbleguppies.

{3 minute time elapse, which is just long enough for me to run the Keurig and take my first sip of coffee}

Mommy, I don’t want to watch this.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Uh, uh, uh! Dada, UH!

Mommy, I said I don’t want to watch this.

Mommy, can I have some toast.
Mommy, baby Froggy is stealing my toast!
Mommy, baby Froggy turned off the TV!

Mommy, this wasn’t what I was watching.

Dear children,

I understand that you have needs first thing in the morning, you’re little kids. I get it. Really, I do. Kiddos need to have diapers changed, and bottles, and something to put in their bellies. It’s hard to wake up in the morning, and these things need to be accomplished before a certain time in order to quell any tantrums or fits.

I ask only this of you, mommy just needs ONE THING in the morning. Just ONE THING:

    This might be my favorite post ever!! :) so true. I didn’t even get to finish my coffee before we left for little gym this morning. I came back, it was still on the counter and then… 2 hours after it was made, I finished it. Have a great weekend!!

    AMEN!!

    And this is precisely why I started drinking iced coffee when my son was born 10 months ago. I cold brew it in the fridge overnight. Pour over ice in my double walled tumbler in the am and when, 10 p.m. rolls around and I finally finish it–you guessed it–still cold.

      This is a really fabulous idea. I might have to give it a try. Especially now that it’s July and by 8am? Already 90*. {GAH}

  4. Mornings were the worst, when my daughter was little. I’m not a morning person, totally feel your pain!

    I’m British so it’s more of a tea problem in my house than a coffee one, but it’s the same problem: make ta, get distracted by child needing something, remember tea, tea is cold. I started drinking fruit teas as they’re nicer cold, but as they don’t have any caffeine in, it kind of defeats the point!

    Love the cold coffee idea above. I like frappucinos so I might give that a try.

    Some days I wonder why I make coffee at.all. We got to play group yesterday morning, at 10 am and I had not had any coffee yet. It was hot as hell and we were outside, but I drank a whole cup of hot coffee anyway.
