I find myself saying this to myself a lot:
I swear to myself that once both boys are able to walk, or play independently, or sit through a whole movie, or are in school, or don’t have to be watched like a hawk every.single.second of the day … that I will finally be able to do things around the house that I’ve been wanting to do for years. My Pinterest boards are bursting at the seams with ideas!
1. Work in the yard. Plant things, take care of them, keep them alive. I don’t like yard work itself, but I like potting plants and taking care of small, manageable areas. I yearn for a small garden … I don’t know how feasible keeping veggies alive through the hot Summer months of Texas is, but I would love to at least try.
2. Redo the kitchen. Nothing fancy … we don’t have the moola for a complete reno … but I’d like to paint the cabinets white, tear out some of the hanging ones {to open the space up a little bit}, replace the countertops/backsplash etc. New appliances will have to follow at some point, but I think little updates here and there are totally manageable on my end.
2 1/2. Redo the bathrooms – nothing says ‘my house was built in the 80s like shell-shaped sinks {say that 5 times fast, lol}.
3. Finally get around to working on the kid’s photo books. I have 2 done – The Mouse newborn to 6 mo, and The Mouse 6mo. to a year. Yeah, I’m a little behind.
4. Redecorate the master bedroom. As in, make it into a sanctuary for me and the husband. Relaxing, organized, adult looking … something that looks a little more modern and less ‘we just got out of college and have mismatched furniture and hand-me-down sheets’ … with toys strewn across the floor.
5. Take a really great road trip. I’ve been saying for as long as I can remember, I really want to take like 2 weeks and drive up to Yellowstone and do some camping/sightseeing. I’ve never been to that part of the country {shoot, I’ve never even seen the Rockies}, and I think it’s important that the boys know how to ‘do’ road trips/family vacations in general.
What about you? What’s on your Bucket List for ‘once the kids are old enough’?

-Ahh the joys of motherhood and owning a house. I have a running list of things to do with our house that I keep in the office. 6mos after we moved into our house we decided to paint the kitchen cabinets. They were dark and screamed of 1960. While we would like to replace them, painting them was the best option we had at the time and I will say they look soo much better. The kitchen looks much bigger.
-I want to build a master suite over our family room and convert our current bedroom into a laundry room. We would also inherit a linen closet for storage that is currently MH’s closet, which we badly need.
-Baby photo books for both kids. Im up to date with the memory books, but not the photo albums.
-Second the road tripto any place out west.
Travel, travel, travel. I miss traveling so darn much.
Traveling. Oh how I miss traveling …
I can basically echo your ideas that never get done. I have a million and one great organization and redecoration ideas…but ZERO time to do it.
I would add, go back to the gym…alone!
Definitely travel more. We have started taking baby steps toward this goal. My girls are 9, 7 & 4. We went to Disney for the first time last fall. The girls are already requesting trips to NYC, Chicago, and Paris! Can’t wait to take them to all those places!
I plan on FINALLY getting around to renovating the dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms. We are pretty okay with traveling with the kids, but they really don’t leave us a lot of free time to get anything done around the house. I’m looking forward to actually enjoying looking at the walls of my house sometime in the future!
I’m so glad we aren’t the only people who say “when the kids are older…” On my list? DISNEYWORLD!!!! And professional sports games that they’ll actually enjoy.
As for getting the pictures printed/hung/organized… I am way farther behind than you. I don’t even want to talk about it.
I really want to travel around Europe, go back to Barbados and do the family trip to Disney.
