The Froggy’s First Birthday ‘not-a-Party’

I swore that this ‘party’ was NOT going to be a big deal. And while I *kind of* felt bad about that {after all, the Mouse’s 1st birthday was a big deal}, I also knew that a party in February, in our small house, would drive my stress level through the roof. So I told myself that this would be a family only event. So we would have more space to spread out in, my husband’s grandparents graciously allowed us to have it at their house. I put my foot down and said, ‘balloons, cake, FIN’.

I don’t know who I thought I was fooling … Tottums planning a ‘small’ birthday party is just not possible. Yes, there were balloons, and custom birthday banners, and a freaking smash cake sculpted into a froggy {fondant is surprisingly easy to deal with} … and all the while I was dealing with an awful head cold … but we made it work, and it really was a nice party. The Froggy had a great time and LOVED his cake and all the tissue paper.

Pictures!

The awesome banners were by my friend Charlotte over at The Paper Cupcake, she did an amazing job!

I found these beauties in the Walmart $ bins!

I can’t take credit for either of these ideas. Found both on Pinterest and copied shamelessly, lol.

I have to give a huge shoutout to my friend Amanda, who was sweet enough to give us the Froggy’s birthday overalls from Janie&Jack. They were PERFECT. Love you hon!

From left to right: the Froggy, his cousin {my SIL’s baby, who is exactly 7 weeks younger than the Froggy}, and my cousin’s baby {so, the Froggy’s 3rd cousin? who is exactly 3 weeks older than the Froggy}.

LOVE IT!! We had Turtle’s party on Saturday too. I swore it wasn’t going to be a big deal and then a couple weeks prior I texted my friend (and partner in crime) and said, “you know when I said that I wasn’t going crazy over the Turtle’s first birthday party? Yeah… I take that back!” We had a great time and I only melted down once about 3 hours prior to party but that’s an improvement for me. Hehe. Unfortunately, I had our camera set up on a tripod for a DIY photoboth which came out better than I could have ever hoped but that meant no pics from the party. Now I’m trying to track down pics our friends took and considering resetting up stuff this weekend so I can get pics of all the details. Oh good grief! Did I just say that???

Adorable. The last picture is amazingly sweet and I’m guessing back to the Nikon. I’m a Canon girl, but have recently fell into the iPhone trap too but I just love the crispness of the big camera.

    Happy birthday Froggy!

Perfect! And it doesn’t look like you went too overboard. :)

I should have thought fast and sent you some of the frog stuff that I had leftover from Aiden 2nd birthday. I had frog waterbottles. The head flipped back and a straw popped out. And I had so little tine buckets from Target $1 that I used as favor holders. And I had in flatible frog shaped beach balls. With legs on it and everything.

  5. Oh it looks like fun! That last picture of him is just perfect! You are going have to beat those teenage girls off with a stick with those eyes and lashes!!!

Our party was Sunday and was also supposed to be not huge and yet there was no food left and cars parked way down my parent’s street. But yay for parties and February babies and first birthdays!!!!!!!!!

  8. molly says:

Oh, his pretty blue eyes. I love them.

I love all the details of the party. Although it kind of makes me sad because this was supposed to be Brig’s first birthday theme and then we had to cancel it! But that cake is awesome. You should be proud, mama!

  9. You got some amazing photos!! That last one is to die for. I’m so happy y’all had such a great time!!

  10. Well, that is pretty much the cutest “not a party” EVER. Happy birthday to Luke!
