I wish I had a big long eloquent post for Memorial Day, but I don’t. I just have a whole bunch of Instagram photos to dump on you. Here’s my Memorial Day speech: Go hug a service member. A Veteran. Or the family member of a service member or veteran. Or if you have hugging issues, shake their hand. Or just simply say thank you. If you’re feeling especially patriotic, invite them home with you for a hotdog and beer. They might only think you’re a *little* weird.
We spent our holiday weekend at my parent’s house. I love my parent’s house. I love how my parent’s plan our visit around nap and meal times. I love that there are built-in babysitters. I love their pool.
It was a five hour drive down there. The Froggy screamed for only the last hour and a half or so, so we called it a win. The first thing we noticed when we opened the car doors upon arrival were the cicadas. OHMYGOSH the cicadas. They were insanely loud and the Mouse was instantly terrified. The next morning though, grandpa picked one up and showed him what was making all the noise, and he was okay with them. Then we spent the afternoon counting all the insects that were stuck to the back of the house. We counted over 15 plus a 10″ long stick bug. I am SUCH a boy mom.
Momma is fostering kitties again. This time she only has two, sisters. They are SO small … barely six weeks old. The smallest she had already dubbed ‘Itty Bit’ and the larger one the Mouse named ‘Chip’ because ‘I like chips and I like this kitty’ – ha! she’ll keep them for a few more weeks {until they reach 2 lbs} and then they’ll be able to go back to the shelter for adoption. She has to keep them separate from her other 2 grown cats {who aren’t very keen on sharing their house with infants} and my sister’s ginormous great dane, George Michael, who was there with her visiting this weekend as well. It was a full house of crazy, y’all.
We did what we always do on San Antonio staycations: we eat, we swim, we play games. Repeat. It’s glorious. I always gain 5 lbs from my parent’s amazing cooking. In true my-side-of-the-family fashion, the entire day’s itinerary is planned around meals. We’re awesome that way.
The Mouse had a grand time swimming. He’s still in floaties, but will be starting swim school at the beginning of July. The Froggy has one of those neat baby rafts, which he immediately decided that he hated, as he couldn’t keep up with his brother. So mommy and daddy had to wander around the pool with him for 3 days … my arms got a great workout. They are both absolutely fearless in the water {they take after their mommy} and I can’t wait to get the Mouse out of floaties and really swimming on his own.
It was an awesome weekend. And even though it went by entirely too fast {with another 5 hour drive home on Monday}, we’re super stoked to be going back in 2 weeks for an entire week’s worth of fun. As we were backing out of the driveway this evening on our way out, I yelled out at my mom and dad to get their sleep in now, because we’ll be back in two weeks for a whole week, and they’ll need their rest. They looked worried.
I hope everyone had a great weekend – did we all notice that PicMonkey’s collage system is up and running? WOOT.

Looked like a wonderful long weekend. Love the sound of cicadas. Little Noah screams in the car on long car rides too. We have a 12 hour drive back home to Maine coming up in July that I’m soooo not looking forward too. Great collages! I haven’t had a chance to play around with them yet but can’t wait to today.
